Diesel Engine Repair& Rebuilds in San Diego
From oil leaks and turbo failures to complete in-frame and out-of-frame engine rebuilds — LTEK handles every level of diesel engine repair at our Otay Mesa shop. We diagnose before we repair, so you never pay for work your truck doesn't need.
Certified on Cummins ISX/ISB/X15, Detroit DD13/DD15/DD16, PACCAR MX-13, and Volvo D11/D13 platforms. Every engine job starts with a full ECM diagnostic — not a guess.
In-Frame vs. Out-of-FrameWhat's the Difference?
Not every engine problem requires a full teardown. We assess the damage first and recommend the most cost-effective repair path for your situation.
In-Frame Rebuild
The engine stays in the truck. We replace cylinder liners, pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, and seals — everything inside the block that wears out over time. This is the right call when the block and crankshaft are still in good condition.
Out-of-Frame Rebuild
The engine is removed from the truck for a complete teardown and inspection. Everything is replaced or machined — block, crank, cam, heads, all internals. This gives you essentially a new engine with a full service life ahead of it.
Engine Issues We Fix Daily
San Diego owner-operators and fleets bring us these engine problems regularly. We diagnose every one with an ECM scan before quoting repairs.
Oil Leaks & Consumption
External leaks from gaskets, seals, and oil coolers. Internal consumption from worn rings, valve guides, or turbo seals. We find the source before recommending repairs.
Turbo Failures & Boost Issues
VGT actuator faults, wastegate problems, bearing failure, and boost leaks. Common on Cummins ISX and Detroit DD15 platforms — we service both.
Coolant Leaks & Overheating
Water pump failure, thermostat issues, radiator leaks, head gasket failure, and EGR cooler leaks. Overheating destroys engines — we catch it early.
Injector Problems
Misfiring, white smoke, rough idle, and poor fuel economy. We test injectors individually, check fuel rail pressure, and diagnose high-pressure pump issues.
Low Power & Poor Performance
Loss of power under load, sluggish acceleration, and exhaust restrictions. Often caused by turbo issues, fuel delivery problems, or air intake restrictions.
Valve & Overhead Adjustments
Jake brake not working, rough running, and excessive valve train noise. Overhead adjustments recommended every 300K–500K miles depending on platform.
Common Questions
How much does a diesel engine rebuild cost in San Diego?+
Engine rebuild costs vary significantly based on the platform, the extent of damage, and whether it's an in-frame or out-of-frame job. Call us at (619) 848-0459 for a diagnostic and accurate estimate. We always quote before starting work.
How long does a diesel engine rebuild take?+
An in-frame rebuild typically takes 5–7 business days depending on parts availability. An out-of-frame rebuild can take 2–3 weeks. We provide a clear timeline before starting and keep you updated throughout.
Do you rebuild Cummins ISX and X15 engines?+
Yes. Cummins ISX and X15 are among our most commonly serviced engine platforms. We handle everything from overhead adjustments and injector replacements to full in-frame and out-of-frame rebuilds.
Should I rebuild or replace my diesel engine?+
It depends on the condition of your block, crankshaft, and the extent of damage. In many cases, a rebuild is significantly more cost-effective than a replacement. We'll diagnose the issue first and recommend the most economical path.
Do you offer warranties on engine rebuilds?+
Yes. All engine repair and rebuild work comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty. Parts are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. We stand behind every job.
Can you diagnose my engine before recommending repairs?+
Absolutely — every engine repair at LTEK starts with a full ECM diagnostic. We pull fault codes, review live data, and inspect components before recommending any work. You'll get a detailed estimate before we touch a wrench.
